In the last update, we got some great new features. For me, the most interesting of which was the sliders. Perhaps they weren't the most flashy or, dare I say, even that useful. But they proved that Lurp contained this innate, latent power which had yet to be discovered. More polls! And I personally did find it quite fun and useful: some things aren't decisive; they're flexible, unpredictable. Sliders allowed us to express just that by dragging only just as much as we really thought was necessary. For example, the coffee theme on Lurp – it's not perfect, but, to me, it's just barely not perfect. I really like the earthy colors flow with the slick design. Anyway, I'd drag the slider almost completely to the right, with something of a pinky of margin.
The major downside was the lack of inherit meaning. How much is 0.89 actually? Well, first of all, it depends on the scale. By default, I've set the scale to 0-10, meaning 0.89 is actually quite low! But I have future plans on customizations for the scale as well as some other stuff. The point is, it's just a number after all.
So to fix this, I created a much more familiar representation of affinity, appreciation or whatever's being evaluated. I'm of course talking about ratings! Read more here. They're incredibly simple and intuitive: there are five stars on the screen and you just press one of them. Future plans include customizations for the number of stars as well as the shapes. I mean, why stop at stars. I imagine a universe, not far from ours, where ratings can come in all forms and sizes. 10 pizzas – why not? 7 hearts – why not? 3 screaming emojis – I think you get the point.
Since we're talking about future plans, I think it would be really cool if you could also adjust the steps on the slider. It really doesn't have to be this analog thing with numerous decimals. Why not make it 10 steps/slides instead? Well, it seems to be crashing with the rating feature a bit, but I really don't think that's an issue. What we're doing here is offering many different tools that can be used in countless different ways. We're tweaking experience, not just application, technical purpose. So, what about this not-so-distant universe? I'm obviously talking about the Lurp Universe.
Thanks for reading; I'll see you in the polls!
